What is Fast Charging?

Well before understanding the fast charger we should know what does fast charging means. Fast charging is a term used to describe a faster rate of charging than the standard rate that the phone charges to.

To make the charging of a device faster, most manufacturers either boost the amperage or vary the voltage to increase the amount of potential energy that goes into the device. Most fast charging standards vary the voltage dynamically, rather than boosting the amperage.

Most phones and other gadgets can accommodate the 5V/2.4A. If you are looking at something for fast charging that boosts the voltage up to 5V, 9V, 12V and beyond or raises amperage to 3A and above.

How to Identify Fast Charger for Mobile?

There are different ways to identify whether you are having a fast charger or not. Among various methods some are listed below:

Method Number 1

You can simply go to google and search for the specification of your smartphone. If your device supports fast charging and comes with fast charger then google will surely mention that feature and if not then you are not having a fast charger for mobile.

Method Number 2

Take your mobile charger now and look at the power output ratings; if you see 5V—1A or like this 5V—1000mA or anything less than that 1000mAh, you immediately know you’ve got a slow phone charger. But if you see 5V—2A, or 5V—2000mA or more in this format, then congratulation you’ve got a quick phone charger.

How to Find the Charging Time?

The time taken by your smartphones depends on your charger and battery capacity. Suppose I have a smartphone with a 4000mAh battery capacity and my charger output is 2000mA(2A).

Then in order to find the charging time, I will divide my battery capacity by the charger output(4000/2000). So, my charger will approximately take 2 hours to charge my 4000mAh battery completely.

Types of Fast Charging

  • Qualcomm Quick Charge

Qualcomm’s Quick Charge is the most common fast-charging standard, due to the widespread design of the company’s chipsets. Quick Charge 2.0 and 3.0 are the two fast charging forms that you will most likely see now, with Quick Charge 4 + on the horizon.

  • MediaTek Pump Express

Many MediaTek-powered phones use the company’s standard Pump Express. As with Qualcomm Quick Charge, on different devices Pump Express comes in different models. The older Specifications are Pump Express+ and Pump Express 2.0.

  • Samsung Adaptive Fast Charging

Samsung’s Adaptive Fast Charging is not so commonly known as the more popular Quick Charge from Qualcomm but operates by bumping up voltage and/or amperage in a manner similar to the above specifications.

  • Oppo Super VOOC Flash Charge

VOOC is the patented fast charging standard for Oppo and of course, you will only find it on compatible Oppo phones such as the Find 7a and R7. Like Quick Charge, VOOC works by increasing the voltage rather than current.

  • OnePlus Dash Charging

Dash charging on the OnePlus will sound familiar, as it’s Oppo licensed mode, so it works the same as VOOC, bumping up amperage to 5V/4A to achieve a 20W performance. You can charge up to 60 percent in 30 minutes on a phone such as the OnePlus 5T.

  • Huawei SuperCharge

As with most charging systems, Huawei SuperCharge works by varying voltage and amperage. You can get output of 5V/1A (5W), 5V/2A (10W), 9V/2A (18W), or 4.5V/5A (22.5W) with compatible adapters and cables. In 30 minutes, you can charge 58 percent on compatible devices such as the Mate 10 Pro.

  • Anker PowerIQ

Anker’s fast charging PowerIQ is a bit different in that it’s not built into the phone itself. Instead, it works with most phones that have fast circuit charging. PowerIQ defines the connected device and adjusts the voltage output at 5V/1A, 5V/2.4A, 5V/2A, 9V/2A, and 12V/1.5A cycles for adjustable charging rates, basically the same as Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0.
